An access log is a text file containing a full list of all the files accessed by your site visitors. All of the files which were requested in one way or another shall be included, so if you have a PHP script program and a site visitor opens only the home page, for example, you might find a lot of files inside the log. The reason is that there are things on the home page which are embedded - parts of other webpages, images, etcetera. All these files will be listed inside the access log, so that you can get a complete picture of the way your website performs. The info is in plain text format, so the logs are sometimes termed "raw data" as well. An access log shows the name of each and every requested file, the path to it, the date it was accessed, as well as the user’s IP address, browser and Operating System. Additional information, including the referrer site, is sometimes included as well. A log file may be processed by various desktop applications for statistical purposes as an addition to the web stats supplied by your website hosting server.

Access Log Manager in Shared Web Hosting

Our in-house built Hepsia CP has a section focused on various logs and the access logs are one of them. As soon as you sign in to your shared web hosting account and navigate to this section, you shall find a list of all the domain names and subdomains which you have. All it takes to enable the generation of access logs is to click on a button that'll be available next to each domain/subdomain. If the option is active, you shall see a download link together with the file size so far, so you shall be able to save the file to your laptop or computer and view it or process it with some application. Enabling or disabling the logs becomes effective immediately, so if you no longer need one, you can stop it with a click from the exact same section of the Control Panel. You will still be able to access the already created content by simply clicking the Download link.

Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you host your Internet sites in a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll have the option to enable or disable the generation of access logs with no more than several clicks in your Hepsia hosting Control Panel. You will find this feature in the Access/Error Logs section, which you can access once you sign in. All it takes for our system to start producing logs is a single click on the On button you'll see there. The feature can be enabled individually for any Internet site regardless of whether it uses a domain name or a subdomain and you'll find the complete list of all the hosts within that section. Any access log can be downloaded as a text file with just a click and you could then look at it manually or use some software on your computer. The log generation may be deactivated by simply changing the On option to Off in the Logs section of your CP.
