Every desktop or notebook or web server is run by an Operating System - the low-level program which communicates with the hardware equipment, including peripherals such as a mouse and a printer, as well as any applications that are present on your system. Any program input through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the Operating System. On a web server, each and every application runs within the parameters set by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etc. This goes for both standard site scripts and server-side software like a media server. If a virtual server is generated on a physical one, there can be two separate Operating Systems, named guest OS and host OS, which means that you'll be able to set up a different software environment on the same machine.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

If you choose one of our VPS server plans, you will have 3 different Operating Systems to pick from - CentOS, Debian and Ubuntu. They are all Linux distributions and we offer them rather than offering just one OS, as the apps that you might want to run on the server may have specific requirements for the software environment. Each one of the three has some advantages with regard to the available plans that you may afterwards install, but what is common between them is the fact that they're very stable and reliable and have vast communities which support them. The hosting Control Panel choices for the VPS accounts depend on your Operating System choice, in order to give you more flexibility. When you order the virtual server with one OS and you need a different one later, our technical support team can easily reinstall the VPS with the new one in a matter of minutes. We also offer you the option to keep the Operating System on your server up-to-date weekly.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to obtain one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page because we want to give you a larger choice regarding the system environment on your machine as different apps could have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and enjoy a reliable and secure Internet hosting service. Based on your selection, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System if the one you've selected initially does not meet the requirements of the software that you want to run. We can also update your OS routinely in order to keep it as secure as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
